Detroit Lions Predictions

The NFL season is rapidly approaching us many teams have new looks with newly acquired players via free agency, or via the draft. Many teams have gotten much better during this period or worsen. Some teams I expect to see improve is the Detroit Lions, last season they finished 6-10 but they were on most of they're 10 losses. If you have watched a Lions game the first half they generally keep the game close. If you look at the Lions on paper they look like a solid team, they're quarter back situation looks to have been resolved with Matt Stafford as the starting quarter back. They have a solid running back in Jahvid Best and an outstanding wide receivers in Calvin Johnson so if you begin to use Johnson more it will open things up to other receivers Maurice Stovall and Nate Burleson. They're offence seems to be looking very well but it isn't all about your offense. So on the other side of the ball they have an outstanding defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh who was a rookie last season. A very good left end Cliff Avril who recorded 8.5 sacks last season. A solid LOLB in Julian Peterson, a very good second year FS in Louis Delmas. Also most of their roster is young, they have a lot of young talent and that young talent has room to get better and better. On paper this team seems solid, they finished last season 6-10 I can see this team going 9-7 which isn't amazing but a steady improvement for this young team. The sky is the limit for the Lions.

Metrodome collapse

Sunday December 12, 2010 at 1pm was supposed to be the Giants @ Vikings kickoff. But in Minneapolis they are having a snow storm, which on the east coast we got rain, but they got 15 inches of snow. Covered the Metrodome and the top was no longer visible says sources who where on site when this happened. No one was inside the Metrodome at this time, so the game will be moved to Monday night at 8pm. It will only be aired in local markets, so it won't be a Monday Night Football Game. This game was already postponed because the Giants could not get into Minneapolis due to weather conditions. But this can change a lot Vikings QB Brett Farve will get one more day of rehab with the trainers. Giants wide receivers Hakeem Nicks, and Steve Smith will have extra time to be back 100% because both of them have been inactive for quit some time. This game has a lot at steak Eli Manning Giants QB is going for his 100th consecutive starts who is 6th. He needs this game and 8 more to take hold of 6th all time who is currently Joe Ferguson. Brett Farve will probably start because he will have 32 extra hours to rest, and that will but him at 298 consecutive starts. The Vikings are out of it, they have no playoff chance, but the Giants are tied for 1st in the NFC East, but this game they will know if the Eagles win their game so they will know how much will be at steak on Monday. The Eagles are playing the Dallas Cowboys tonight in Dallas. If the Cowboys do in fact win and so do the Giants, the Giants will have 1st place all to them selfs. Then they would avoid a 1st round game vs the Eagles in Philadelphia. These last few weeks will decide the playoffs, there are many tough teams there and the Green Bay Packers in the hunt so the Giants must win Monday night, and at home vs the Eagles. Then they would go to Lambeau Field to face the Packers. This NFC showdown is in full bloom and these games can be these teams seasons at steak.

Carl Crawford signs with the Red soxs

The young left fielder Carl Crawford signed with the Boston Redsoxs, a team in need for some help. The Yankees have been on the look out for Carl Crawford but he decided to go with the Boston Redsox's 7 year-deal for $142 million dollars. Earlier this week the Redsoxs got Adrian Gonzalez from the San Diego who will have a 7 year-deal worth $154 million. But the Yankees still have there eye set on arguably the best pitcher in the MLB and that is Cliff Lee who the Yankees offered 7 year-deal $170 million. The Yankees have been lacking pitching, now that Crawford is in Boston, they need Lee. The Rangers have no way of matching that deal, and if they do the Yankees can give him more money than imaginable. The AL east will again be between the Redsoxs and the Yankees, now that Boston got two new improvements to there team if they have there cards played right they can be in line for a great season. But if the Yankees get Lee they can be unstoppable. They will have Lee, Sabathia, and Hughes as there 3 best. We all know the Yankees have the offense, Cano, Jeter, A-rod, and Teixeira. The Yankees have an outstanding in field, they just need outfield. They have Brett Gardner, Nick Swisher, Curtis Granderson. The Redsoxs failed to make the playoffs last season but now these two teams can be neck and neck again the the AL east which we seen many times. The games between these two will be back to even unlike last year, this season looks to be a good one, we just have to wait and find out.

Carmelo Anthony

Carmelo Anthony, Small forward, Denver Nuggets, 7 years pro. He is a 22 point per game guy, his numbers have been dropping from last year. This is his last year on his contract and his performance has dropped. Last year he averaged 28.2 points per game. That is a six point drop, but Carmelo has been offered a contract extension of 3 years and 65 million dollars. He has a player option which would put him in line to make over 18 million dollars next season. But after getting married to Lala Vasquez he has been interested in going to the New York Knicks, Antony got married in New York and told the Nuggets no to the contract extension. No other teams want Melo because they know the 3 time all-star will only be with them the remained of the season. But the Knicks can have some concern about Carmelo Anthony going to a better team in the off season. Carmelo can be an improvement to the Hornets, who the Knicks are interested in there all-star point guard, Chris Paul. Will Paul,Anthony, going to the Knicks it would make one heck of a team. All though the Nuggets have other weapons on there team such as, Chauncey Billups (PG), J.R. Smith (SG), young speedy Ty Lawson (PG), and Nene (C). They don't have any great small forwards which is a vital part of winning in the Western Conference and let alone a championship, which the Nuggets have never one or let alone been to. The Nuggets are looking to do a sign and trade with the Knicks and maybe take young point guard Raymond Felton, and or young Wilson Chandler. The Nuggets have said that if Carmelo does not agree to play with the team for another season he will be gone by Feb. The Nuggets need a new face, if the face of there franchise leaves this season, or gets traded. As of now the Nuggets are on a 7 game winning streak, and holding a 13-6 record which is enough to have the 5 spot in the tough west. The Nuggets will need to find alternate scoring from other players because when Anthony leaves 22 points a game will be gone. Nene, and Renaldo Balkman have steeped up there scoring, but how long will this last? Denver needs someone new to come to the mile high city, and to fill the shoes of three time all-star Carmelo Anthony, the question is who will it be and when?

Jets vs Patriots Recap

The one word that comes to mind after watching the Jets vs Patriots game is wow. The Patriots played amazing defense and great offense. The final score was 45-3. Mark Sanchez threw no touchdowns and 3 interceptions and he went 17/33 164 yards. On the other sideline Patriots quarterback Tom Brady went 21/29 326 yards and 4 touchdown passes, and zero interceptions. Despite the Jets terrible pass game they had a descent running attack, but they couldn't be running the ball when your down by 25. Overall this game was a blow out, I believe there was bad coaching the pall call wasn't good at all for the Jets. There offense towards the end of 2nd quarter which around 2 mins remaining they where running the ball! They where losing 24-3 and they where acting like they had the lead. If they threw the ball and got maybe a field goal, or even a touchdown, they would have gotten the ball at half and scored again. There would be momentum for the Jets, and kind of a killer for the Patriots. My grade for the Jet's overall performance was a D- the reason it isn't an F is because they had a descent running attack. The New England Patriots overall grade would be an A they played amazing on both ends of the football. I love Bill Belichick idea of not stopping, he kept the passing game going, and hate to say it Jets fans shut Rex Ryan (Jets head coach) up. He was talking about superbowl before the season started, now the Jets remaining schedule is Miami Dolphins at home, then travel to Pittsburgh to face the Steelers, then to Chicago to face the Bears, then back to New Meadowlands Stadium to face the Buffalo Bills. The Jets have to tough games, my projection on the jets season is 11-6 taking a wild card spot. The New England Patriots remaining games this season is Bears, Packers, Bills, Dolphins. The Jets must step up the odds are not in their favor for winning the AFC East but can they pull another few wins out of the hat. They came from behind three times can they do it in their division too?

Half time report of Jets at Patriots

The first half at Gillette Stadium in New England, Massachusetts was what the Patriots fans where looking for. A nice early lead, but they got way more then that a 24-3 lead can go a long way. The Patriots started with a 41 yard field goal and two touchdowns one with a 1 yard rush with Green-Ellis one to Deion Branch for 25 yards to equal to 17-0. In the start of the second quarter the Jets got on the board with a 39 yard field goal from Nick Folk. Then the Patriots would score a touchdown on a 4 yard pass to Brandon Tate, which is a questionable call to say the least. Tom Brady's first half stats are 10/16 152 yards, and 2 touchdowns and no interceptions. Mark Sanchez went 8/18 with 77 yards no touchdowns and no interceptions. The Patriots had 37 rushing yards on 9 carries and 1 touchdown from Green-Ellis, and 2 carries for Woodhead, and a three yard rush from Tom Brady.  The leading receiver for the Jets is Santonio Holmes with 4 catches for 52 yards. And the leading receiver for the Patriots is Deion Branch with 3 catches for 64 yards and one touchdown. The Jets defense despite the 24 points allowed they have sacked Brady 3 times. The Patriots defense only allowing 3 points have only 1 sack. The Jets will be getting the ball at the half and need to turn things around, it is tough enough to win at Gillette Stadium let alone overcome a 24-3 deficit with the red hot Patriots defense coming on the field with not even allowing the Jets in the red zone. Lets see how this half turns out.

Jets vs Patriots Preview

Tomorrow at 8:30 the kickoff at Gillette Stadium in New England, Massachusetts a start of a crucial game in the AFC East will take place. Its the 9-2 New York Jets taking on the 9-2 New England Patriots. This game will decide who takes hold of the AFC East division. The team who wins this game will have more than a 75% chance of winning the AFC East which will go a long way. Instead of playing three games in the playoffs you will only play two, then the Superbowl, if you get that far. The first meeting of these teams was week two in the New Meadowlands Stadium, and the Jets won that one 28-14. The 9-2 Jets have won a few games vs bellow average teams in either the last two minutes or in overtime. After the Jets got shut out at home in week 8 vs the Green Bay Packers with the final score 9-0. The Jets went to Detroit to face the Lions, the game went into overtime and the Jets ended up sneaking out 23-20.

Then the Jets traveled to Cleveland to face the Browns, yes the team who beat the Saints, but the Jets went to the final seconds in overtime to score a touchdown to win 26-20. After two nail biting wins, they go back to Meadowlands Stadium to face the Houston Texans where they barely won in the last minute 30-27. You wonder if Rex Ryan, Jets head coach has anymore nails to bite. Now the Jets are taking on the Patriots who in week 6 won vs the Baltimore Ravens at home in overtime 23-20. Then week 7 another 23-20 win vs the San Diego Chargers in San Diego but not in overtime.

The Patriots blew out a few teams such as the, Dolphins, and the Lions. Which one of those teams, (Lions) The Jets barley beat. So my prediction on this Jets vs Patriots show down is the Patriots will win by the score of 24-17. This will be a very intense game, with high drama two teams are going to give everything they have but only one team will come out AFC East division leader.
